Tax Credits and Incentives

Taxes Suck

In Texas, the sun is intense, which is why going solar in Texas makes sense. With an average of 235 sunny days per year and solar energy costs rapidly decreasing, installing a solar system in Texas makes sense for most homeowners.

Many electricity providers in Texas provide valuable solar incentives, from net metering or solar “buyback” to rebates for home solar systems. This is important information to know as you are considering solar for you and your family.

The cost of putting solar panels on your home will vary based on your energy costs, the electricity provider’s net metering policies, solar power rebates and other financial incentives. Don't be intimidated by the potential initial costs of going solar. As your Power Partner, Sunfinity will help you every step of the way as you go solar.

Federal Solar Incentives

The Solar Investment Tax Credit, or ITC, is a federal tax credit that is a dollar for dollar reduction on income taxes. The 2021 tax credit remains at 26% for projects installed in 2021 and 2022, then decreases to 22% in 2023. In 2024 and beyond, the ITC will no longer be available for residential solar projects.

State and Other Local Incentives

The state of Texas does not offer a statewide solar tax credit, but many local electricity providers offer incentives to go solar. The structure and availability of solar rebates vary across the state, but most utilities offer rebates to homeowners on a price-per-watt basis that is capped at a maximum amount per project. The funds may be available in perpetuity or released on a periodic basis for residential solar installations. The electricity providers each have an application process, which Sunfinity will manage for homeowners.
